Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Kestrel Medical Cooperative is a registered cooperative under the Registry of Co-operative Societies (RCS), regulated by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY). It was founded by healthcare professionals, for healthcare professionals, with the shared understanding that transitioning into or planning for private practice can often feel isolating, uncertain, and overwhelming.

Kestrel aims to provide professional, social, economic, and logistical support to its members, while fostering the exchange of wisdom and experience across generations of healthcare professionals.

Kestrel Medical Cooperative is committed to providing personalized care to each of our patients. We take the time to listen to your concerns and develop a customized treatment plan that meets your individual needs. Kestrel offers members access to collective benefits and opportunities.

In the initial phase, the Cooperative will focus on securing group deals and partnerships with retail, F&B, lifestyle, financial, and legal service providers. Over time, we plan to organise community-based and non-medical events such as mindfulness sessions, self-development workshops, and networking gatherings - creating meaningful opportunities for connection and friendship across the healthcare community.

Kestrel was founded by two doctors who recognised the recurring challenges faced by their juniors entering private practice- challenges that persisted despite many others having walked the same path before.

Together with a small team of five doctors, they established Kestrel as a medical cooperative to support peers through shared experience and collective action.

Registration Date: 1 October 2025

The Kestrel is a small falcon known for its ability to hover motionless in mid-air before making its move. This behaviour symbolises the period of uncertainty that many junior healthcare professionals experience as they navigate their next career step.

Like the kestrel, they may hover and wait for the right opportunity - a process that, while necessary, can be challenging. The name reflects resilience, focus, and the courage to act with intention.

Yes. There is a one-time joining fee of S$20.

New members will enjoy a five-month complimentary membership (covering the 2nd to 6th months) after paying the initial joining fee. Thereafter, a recurring subscription fee of S$20 per month will apply to maintain membership. Members may opt to set up GIRO deductions for ongoing payments.

The Pro-Term Committee, comprising the two founding doctors, initiated and registered Kestrel Medical Cooperative with MCCY. The first Committee of Management (COM) was subsequently appointed by the Pro-Term Committee during the inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 29 November 2025.

All members of the COM are elected at the AGM for a term lasting 4 years. The positions of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and other officers are elected directly by members.

For further details, please refer to Kestrel’s By-Laws, which can be found on the About page.

Kestrel was founded by a small, diverse group of doctors - but our strength lies in the collective wisdom of our members. We welcome individuals who wish to contribute their ideas, experience, or expertise.

You may reach out to the Committee directly or contact us via our Telegram group to share your suggestions or get involved in upcoming initiatives.

Kestrel operates as a membership-based cooperative, funded primarily through joining and subscription fees.

In addition, the Committee of Management is establishing clinical contracts and other business partnerships, a portion of which will contribute to Kestrel’s operational funds. The Committee will continue exploring alternative revenue streams to ensure long-term sustainability.

We also welcome collaborations and suggestions from members who wish to support the cooperative’s growth.

The Treasurer, elected at each AGM, oversees the financial management of the cooperative. Funds collected through membership fees and other income sources are allocated into two key accounts:

1. General Reserve Fund, for administrative and operational expenses.

2. Common Good Fund, to support community and welfare-related initiatives.

Please refer to the By-Laws for detailed financial governance information.

While CME/CPE-accredited activities are not the primary focus of the cooperative, Kestrel recognises the value of professional development and shared learning. As membership grows, we plan to explore CME/CPE-related initiatives, leveraging the collective expertise of our members to create meaningful educational opportunities.
